Tight 2027 Budget? Here's How to Invest Smart in Your Ecommerce Experience

A full replatform won’t necessarily solve brands’ ecommerce challenges in 2027. Instead, look at how to enhance the current platform with a focus on social selling, accelerated checkouts, and more

It's planning season, which means it's budget season. Every year around now, commerce teams start asking the same questions: what is our ecommerce stack costing us, and what would it take to improve the customer experience?

For some teams, the answer is a replatform, whether that's moving to something simpler or stepping up to something with more sophistication. If that's you, it may well be the right move and we can help.

But for some teams, 2027 budgets won't stretch to a large project. The better question is: if big projects aren't an option, how can you invest in something smart? Here are some moves that can improve performance and set you up well, whether you replatform down the road or not.

Move Forward With Agentic Commerce

For those wanting to lean into how AI can improve customer experiences and operations, this is one of the biggest arguments for staying on Salesforce.

Salesforce's Agentforce Commerce suite was made broadly available in mid-2026, and there are quite a few key benefits:

  • Shopper Agent handles product questions and checkout on your existing storefront
  • Buyer Agent takes B2B orders over WhatsApp and SMS without a portal login
  • Merchant Agent lets your team manage catalogs and promotions in plain language instead of digging through menus
  • Also part of the release is having your catalog sync into ChatGPT and Google's AI Mode.

While it requires turning it on, connecting it to clean product data, and building the workflows around it, that’s still an easier process than a full site migration.

Focus Your Efforts on Social Shopping

TikTok Shop, Instagram checkout, and shoppable video are platform-agnostic by design. They connect through product feeds and APIs, not through whatever commerce engine sits behind your site.

Shopify gets a lot of credit for social commerce because it has the success stories of brands building the integration and operational discipline behind it. But if you’re on Salesforce Commerce Cloud, you can still sync a catalog to TikTok Shop the same way a brand on Shopify can, as well as features like inventory sync and fulfillment routing. These are what make social checkout actually work at scale.

Take Advantage of Shop Pay

This is the one that surprises people, but shouldn’t if you’ve been following us. Shop Pay is the leading accelerated checkout option, and despite being a Shopify product, you don’t have to be on Shopify to use it.

We've implemented it directly on Salesforce Commerce Cloud storefronts (see how and learn more with our on-demand webinar). Shoppers get the same one-click checkout they trust from a hundred million Shopify accounts, and the brand keeps its existing platform, data, and integrations underneath it.

What to Audit Before You Replatform

Before putting a full migration on the 2027 roadmap, we'd recommend you get specific about what's broken. Checkout conversion, personalization, agentic readiness, social integration, and catalog data quality are five different problems with five different fixes, and a platform swap only addresses the ones tied to genuine architectural limits. Everything else on that list is an enhancement, and enhancements are faster, cheaper, and far less risky than a rebuild.

The brands that hold up aren't the ones chasing the newest platform, but rather the ones with the discipline to keep layering real improvements onto a foundation that already works.

The Move for 2027

Replatforming makes sense when the architecture is genuinely holding you back. For most of the brands having this conversation right now, it isn't. The faster, lower-risk path is auditing what Salesforce is missing against what you actually need, then building it, whether that's Agentforce Commerce, a social checkout integration, or Shop Pay running on your existing storefront.

If you're weighing a Salesforce migration for 2027, talk to us before you write your RFP. There's a good chance the platform you already have can get you most of the way there.
