Knixteen, branded as Kt by Knix, makes leakproof underwear, bralettes, and period essentials for teens. The brand operates across the United States and Canada and is built for real teen life: school, sports, sleepovers, and swimming. Knixteen knew that while it was in multiple markets, it needed to bring a single, unified experience to its customers.
The Challenge: Two Separate Legacy Sites
Knixteen was running two separate Shopify stores, one for the U.S. and one for Canada, both on legacy Shopify 1.0 themes. Managing two catalogs and two codebases meant duplicated effort, inconsistent brand experiences, and compounding maintenance costs. Any update had to be made twice and any problem could exist in two places at once.
The 1.0 theme architecture also limited what the merchandising team could do without developer help. Product variation display relied on custom theme workarounds rather than native Shopify functionality, and content updates required code changes for even simple visual adjustments.
The Solution: Knixteen’s New Site
Kasama migrated Knixteen onto a single, Shopify Markets-enabled 2.0 platform in 8 weeks. The site included a number of features that addressed key problems the Knixteen team was looking to address, including:
- A custom Shopify 2.0 theme, fully reskinned to Kt brand designs, with product, collection, and page templates rebuilt for the new platform. The Shopify 2.0 theme delivers a faster, more flexible experience with full access to native Shopify features unavailable on the old theme.
- A dynamic styling system powered by Shopify Metaobjects, letting merchandisers adjust visual presentation at the block level without touching code. Knixteen removed costly content bottlenecks by allowing the merchandising team work independently from developers,
- Flexible content UI components with configurable text and image alignment, colors, and font sizes, so the team can build and update pages without developer involvement.
- Shopify Markets configured to serve the U.S.and Canada from a single store, with market-specific currencies (USD and CAD), regional pricing, localized content, and subdomain routing. This eliminated duplicate store management with one set of workflows and one place to make changes.
- Full migration of product and operational data from both legacy stores into a single, unified backend.
For Knixteen, the team reused and adapted proven components (templates, style tokens, and metaobject schemas) from the Knix flagship site. This resulted in a faster build, lower cost, and a consistent technical foundation across both brands. Merchants and developers already familiar with the flagship site could move between the two with minimal relearning.
“Knix is a brand that knows what it’s doing on Shopify,” said Mark Rubin, President of Kasama. “Our job was to take that foundation and make it work smarter: one store, two countries, a cleaner codebase, and a faster experience. Knixteen got a better platform in less time because of the work they already had done on the flagship.”
The Results
The new solution allows Knixteen to operate more effectively than they could perform. Now, the Knixteen team can:
- Manage both the U.S. and Canadian storefronts from a single Shopify admin: two catalog, one checkout, one reporting view.
- Create and update content with less developer intervention, using flexible UI components to control layout, color, typography, and imagery directly in the editor.
- Merchandise variation products using standard Shopify features, replacing the custom theme workarounds that had previously required ongoing developer maintenance.
- Take full advantage of the Shopify 2.0 feature set, including sections everywhere, metaobject-driven content, and the full Online Store Editor experience.
- Scale to additional markets in the future with minimal incremental effort. The Shopify Markets infrastructure is already in place.
“Knixteen is now running a single, clean Shopify environment that works for both markets and gives our team the tools to move faster without depending on developers for every change,” said Vivek Thomas, Senior Director of Application Development at Knix.
